Landlocked between China, Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia and Thailand – Laos is in the shadow of her larger neighbours. Approximately the same size as the United Kingdom, the population of Laos is just 6 million. Laos has 138 distinctly different people groups and around 100 languages––Missions' is not easy. To make matters worse, the people are brainwashed by the Communist Government that has been in power since the end of the Vietnam war. On top of that, the main religions of Laos are Buddhism and the oppressive Animism (spirit worship). In society, "Same, Same" is the saying of the Lao people, a reminder of just how apathetic and care-free their approach to life is.
It's not all bad news though. The church in Laos has been steadily growing over the past 50 years. With a dramatic increase in the last 10 as persecution by the Communists has intensified. There are between 100-130,000 believers. Evangelists are taking the Good News to the other people groups that have never heard but they need help, our help. That's why AsiaLink take teams into Laos every year to equip the indigenous Christians with teaching materials, tracts and bibles. Is that something you could do? can you spare two weeks from your holidays to serve inside of this forgotten nation? The great news is that God has never forgotten the peoples of Laos, we can be rest-assured that one day a viable, indigenous church will be established among every tribe and tongue in Laos. Genesis 12:3 and Revelation 7:9 confirms this! Please remember Laos and its unreached people in your prayers. Pray for more workers and for the light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to penetrate the demonic strongholds.
